There’s a conversation that’s heard echoing all around us right now. It’s like a reflex. Almost habitual…and our answers (myself included)? Just the same.
“How was your summer?”
“Good! Busy. I can’t believe it’s August.”
“Are you ready for Fall?”
“No. Not at all. I wish we had more time.”
But, even though we are coming into Fall, let’s be honest, it’s not just this season. These conversations happen all the time. We can’t seem to slow down.
I was running at an exhausting pace a few years ago. I wore my “busy” like a badge of honor. I liked it. But, I ran so fast for so long that I no longer knew how to slow down.
Even though I loved where God had me, and I was saying “yes” to all good things, my life felt frantic, stressful and unbalanced.
Eventually, all the running lead to empty.
How could I lead anyone (my children, a ministry…anything) when I had absolutely nothing left to give?
As I began to put the pieces back together and recharge, God so graciously taught me that I have to live with intentionality in every area of my life. If I don’t, my life is going to live me…not the other way around.
I learned that even though time is limited and precious, I must intentionally carve out time to rest, recharge and invest in growth. I don’t mean a couple minutes here and there. This is the kind of time you have to fight for.
It’s a struggle. A sacrifice. To fight off the busy that tries to creep in a steal it.
But, my goodness…it’s worth it. The revelation and beauty that comes from these times are priceless.
Your flesh may tell you that it’s unproductive to be still before the Lord. Of course, we know in our heart of hearts that is not so, but it takes intentionality to put it into practice.
Friends, I challenge you to carve out time to stop this Fall. To recharge and refocus. Even if you don’t have the time…make the time.
I want to personally invite you to come to the Overflow Worship Conference on October 12-13, 2018 (with myself, Vertical Worship, David Leonard, and Shelly E. Johnson). I created this event for you…worship leaders and entire worship teams to gather.
I know it’s a sacrifice. I know it takes a lot of work to organize your teams to come. But it’s worth it. You and your team will leave encouraged, recharged, and ready to thrive.
So, let me ask you. Are you leading on empty?
What are you going to do about it?
Make the time.
Friends, God is up to something new. And I believe with all my heart that God is moving in the Church in a way like never before. He’s looking for hearts that are filled up to the overflowing and ready to follow where He leads.
I challenge you today…make a choice to live with intentionality. Choose to drown out the noise of society telling you to run faster and harder. Make the time to recharge this Fall, because you never know what God will say when your heart is quiet. It just may change your life.
